Poreč weather: the best time to visit, month by month

This page is about the climate of Poreč, not a weather forecast: long-term averages from DHMZ, the Croatian meteorological service, for air, sea, rain and sunshine. The weather during your week can differ considerably. In short: July and August are the hottest and busiest months, June and September combine a warm sea with fewer people, and May and October suit the old town and day trips without the heat.

Climate, not a forecast: where the numbers come from

DHMZ (Državni hidrometeorološki zavod) describes the climate of a place with 30-year averages, known as climate normals. Poreč is not on the list of stations for which DHMZ publishes climate normals online. We therefore use the Rovinj station, which lies south of Poreč on the same west coast of Istria. Air temperature, rain and sunshine there are averages for 1971 to 2000. The sea temperature is an average for 1961 to 1990; the table has no newer sea values.

Poreč has its own climate station, 15 m above sea level, with measurements since 1981. A report by the City of Poreč with DHMZ gives these average highs and lows for 1981 to 2010: 27.1 and 16.9 °C in summer, 17.0 and 7.8 °C in spring, 19.2 and 10.5 °C in autumn, 9.7 and 1.8 °C in winter. According to the same report, summer highs rose by about 0.7 °C per decade between 1981 and 2015, so today's summers tend to be warmer than the figures below. DHMZ measures current sea temperatures daily, in Istria at the Pula and Rovinj-Sv. Ivan stations.

At night it stays at 20 °C or above on almost 5 days a month. July has less rain than any other month, 40.7 mm. The sea is at its warmest, at 23.7 and 24.2 °C. According to the Poreč Tourist Board, the maestral, a breeze blowing from the sea towards the land, brings relief in summer.

It is also the high season: in August 2025 the Poreč Tourist Board counted 847,099 overnight stays, in July 805,939. The three apartments at Villa Matea have air conditioning, and in the evening you can sit in the garden with the barbecue. The nearest beach is about a 10-minute walk away; more in Poreč beaches.

June and September: warm sea, fewer people

In June the average high is 25.4 °C, the sea 21.0 °C, and the sun shines for 9.6 hours a day. In September it is 24.6 °C in the air and 22.0 °C in the sea: the water is warmer than in June, even though the air is slightly cooler.

From October it gets wetter. October and November are the wettest months in Rovinj, with 97.0 and 98.3 mm, and at the Poreč station autumn brings about 300 mm, more rain than any other season. It also gets quieter: in May 2025 the tourist board counted 285,160 overnight stays, in October 143,965. What is on during your stay is listed in the tourist board's events calendar.

According to the tourist board, two winds alternate on the Poreč coast all year round: the bura, bringing dry and clear weather, and the jugo, a warm wind with rain.
